Africa-Press – Lesotho. A visually impaired resident of Ha Morolong in Berea, ‘Mabatho Lepono, was today gifted a two-roomed house being constructed by Habitat for Humanity Lesotho in commemoration of the 2022 World Habitat Day.
The Minister of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home affairs and Police, Lebona Lephema, graced the event in which he also donated M5 000 to the Lepono family to buy household necessities this Christmas.
“This year, we are commemorating this day by building a house for ‘Mabatho Lepono who was born blind, we have also constructed an advanced pit latrine.
This is one of our initiatives as the ruling government to assist people in need to have proper housing because it is of importance, especially to people with special needs,” Lephema said.
Advocacy and Fundraising Manager of Habitat for Humanity Lesotho, Bohlokoa Mokhotho, noted during the event that, everyone deserved a decent place to live.
“Our initiative as Habitat for Humanity is anchored on the concept of leaving no one behind, hence we came here to assist this family.
We have seen that people are in need of proper secure homes and that it why our team reached out to Members of Parliament present today so that they see for themselves why we requested their assistance in doing this charitable work, thanks to them and all present today,” she stated.
Chopho Lekholoane, Member of Parliament for the Khafung constituency extended gratitude to Habitat for Humanity and the Ha Morolong community for partnering to bring change in his constituency.
“I am proud and filled with joy that finally our people are getting assistance. This shows that we are a sympathetic nation and considerate towards others’ needs. . . and this is indeed a wonderful thing.
People with disabilities need special treatment hence we approached Habitat for Humanity Lesotho to assist this family. We are blessed that Minister Lephema is even present to celebrate and commemorate this day with us,” he added.
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit housing organisation working in communities across the world in more than 70 countries; their vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
The organisation works toward this vision by building and improving homes in partnership with individuals and families in need of a decent and affordable place to live.
