Africa-Press – Lesotho. Versatile Hip Hop artist, Yemba Shungu (28) has tapped into the new Amapiano trend with his newly released single “Monna oa hau o stingy” a week ago. The

lyrical contents of the track simply means “the male partner is not giving the female what she deserves”. Having fused Hip Hop with soulful trap in his previous ventures, Shungu seems to

consistently spread his wings in the music industry. He, however made it clear that he is not abandoning his fans but rather tapping into new sounds. “This is

not a surprise to my supporters,” he said, “I have never been stuck to Hip Hop. ” Lesotho’s very own Amapiano artist further revealed to Arts&Lifestyle that

he is giving the world a taste of who he really is through his music. “I am just a basic guy, who grew up amongst ghetto, basic people, so all my lyrical

inspiration comes from my roots,” he shared. Shungu is very positive about his music career judging by his optimism as he shared about his upcoming projects.

Though he could not disclose the name of the company, he said he will soon be signing a great deal. He acknowledged his team, which he said is backing him up every step of the way to make sure that

he gets relevant deals from big companies. At the moment, Shungu is not hoping to collaborate with anyone in the country for the reason that Amapiano is still foreign.

However he looks forward to working with South African (SA) stars like Kamo Mphela and Lady Du because they inspire him. He said he had never been a fan of Amapiano but during his stay in

Johannesburg, he had the privilege of working closely with Jobe London and the late Killer Kau. Giving a word of advice to the upcoming artists, Shungu said, “Make sure that you study

and make money to avoid regrets and a ton of depression in future. Music alone does not pay the bills, rather focus on creating your businesses. Be like an

American rapper Jay Z who is both an entrepreneur and a musician. ” He also rebuked the hatred among Lesotho artists. “The industry is very small, there is no need for us to be fighting about petty staff,” said Shungu, urging

them to support and uplift each other as they compete. The Thetsane resident started rapping in 2006, while still in high school. However, he was signed in 2013 but it was not long until he was back to being

independent again in 2016. Now the rapper has his own record label called Genuine Records. His music can be found on all social media platforms under the name Yemba Shungu.
