CDC Lawmaker Acarous Gray Picks Bone with Post & Telecom Minister Cooper Kruah for Attending Unity Party Rally

Africa-Press – Liberia. Moses Acarous Gray, a Representative of Montserrado County District #8, is calling for the resignation of Cooper Kruah, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, for attending a political rally where former Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai selected Senator Jeremiah Koung as his running mate for the October 2023 election.

Minister Kruah is the Chairman of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) party, a party that was established by Nimba Senator Prince Johnson. He has been the minister of Post and Telecommunications since the inception of the CDC-led government, five years ago. He came to the ministerial position through the MDR party, which supported the ruling CDC in 2017.

Recently, Senator Johnson pledged that the MDR party would support former Vice President Boakai’s presidential bid. At the same time, he warned President Weah not to dismiss any individuals from Nimba County who are working in the government.

Less than a week after the Nimba County Senator’s statement, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Cllr. Kruah, who hails from Nimba County, was seen attending a political rally of the Unity Party, an opposition party.

After the Unity Party political gathering, a staunch member of the ruling CDC party, Representative Gray, took to social media to express his disgust. Representative Gray posted on social media: “The traitor Cooper Kruah, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, must resign and resign now. You are a dangerous sellout, and good to have lunch with you on Monday. No room for political polytheists and quislings.”

This is the second time this year that Representative Gray has announced that he will be having lunch with people he feels disenchanted with. In March 2023, Representative Gray took supporters, including thugs, to the main campus of the University of Liberia in the name of going to have lunch after the Finance Minister’s special aide, Aloysius Howe, was forcefully driven out of the University of Liberia campus by militants of the Student Unification Party, a student-based political party at UL.

It is not clear how Representative Gray is going to have lunch with Minister Kruah, but political pundits say Representative Gray will want to send a strong message to people who are working in the government and want to pledge their support to another presidential candidate.

After Gray’s post, several individuals from the Unity Party, especially from Nimba County, support the action of Minister Kruah and promise stiff resistance against Representative Gray should his action be taken against the Minister of Post and Telecommunications.

No Ali wrote: “This man right here, Cllr. Cooper Kruah, is a Liberian. He committed no crime to support Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. No law says only CDCians have the right to serve as ministers. Cllr. Kruah will remain Post and Telecom Minister until Pres. Weah can sack him. As the National Chairman of MDR, his party has mandated him to remain on as minister.”

The Minister of Post and Telecommunications’s daughter, Cornelia Kruah-Togba, writes: “Operation SACK Cooper W. Kruah so Nimba can respond.”
