East International Construction Company Accuses District #6 of Threatening to Vandalize Company’s Property

Africa-Press – Liberia. East International, the company carrying on the road construction work between Monrovia and the Roberts International Airport, has accused District Six lawmaker Samuel Enders of ordering thugs to their contruction site to attack them.

According to some contractors of the company who spoke to FrontPageafrica, they were attacked over the weekend for resisting the lawmaker and his supporters from taking dirt intended for the pavement of the road to be used for his personal projects in his district.

Rep. Enders, however, denied the allegations and claimed that the company is reportedly selling the dirt to individuals rather than using it to build alternative route that could help reduce traffic in the ELWA junction area.

When contacted Public Works Minister, Ruth Cooker Collins, said the government of Liberia and the company has reached an agreement to use asphalt that has been removed from the road for the rehabilitation of feeder roads, but meanwhile, she wasn’t aware of what transpired between the construction and the lawmaker.

Minister Collin said: “I was in Rivercess County and I will need to follow-up on that story. What I know is that we have instructed the company to stock piled the dirt that is being removed from the road to be used for alternative route so if a lawmaker went there I have no idea about why because the lawmaker doesn’t work for the Ministry of Public Works.

A senior staff with the company who asked for anonymity said, the District #6 representative is using the dirt as a political project in communities in the district to gain favor, something he said has caught the attention of the company.

“He using the dirt to make political gains. The dirt is intended for the rehabilitation of feeder roads and community that will help ease the traffic. The lawmaker is taking the dirt and making it appear as his project that is what we are against.”

Explaining further, some contractors of the company explained how the thugs taken to the company office were beaten and attacked everyone that crossed their paths.

Kelvin Boimah, one of the senior staff of the company, explained how he lost his eyeglasses and gold chain as a result of the attack.

According to him, Representative Enders threatened to order his thugs to beat him if he resisted him from taking the dirt.

“We still have use for the dirt in fact even if they want the dirt there are ways you can do it that attacking us. We all want the same thing which is creating detour, but the lawmaker is making it appear as a political project.”
