For this local leader of the opposition PAICV, the municipality is “thirsty” to show service, but is missing the opportunity to give voice to the youth of the municipality, with the program almost coming to an end.
“The program is coming to an end and the city council does not even have the capacity to restructure the Municipal Youth Council, an organization that is extremely important, a space where young people have the opportunity to share experiences and discuss their interests together. of the municipality”, underlined Jairson Tavares.
In a press release, he also denounced the “poor governance” of this municipality by the current city council team, when making “an analysis of the state” of this municipality.
High youth unemployment rate
As an example, Jairson Tavares pointed out unemployment data in the municipality of Porto Novo, whose rate is around 22 percent (%), with youth unemployment standing at 32 percent, considering that public policies are failing in this regard. county.
“In 2016, the unemployment rate was 10.3%. In 2023 it is at 22%. Youth unemployment, which was 24.6% in 2016, increased in 2023 to 32%. This clearly demonstrates a failed bet on the public policies practiced by the city council”, he noted.
In terms of housing, Porto Novo continues to have “an extremely high housing deficit” and despite “all the presumption” around the programs announced by the city council, “families continue to live in an inhuman and unworthy situation”, this party leader also denounced.
In his view, Porto Novo needs “people committed to the cause of its people, under penalty of the municipality losing control and falling into an even greater disaster”.
