Africa-Press – Liberia. House Speaker, Dr. Bhofal Chambers, is calling on citizens of Pleebo Sodoken District in Maryland County, to maintain the peace of Liberia.

Speaker Chambers also warned them against engaging into acts of violence that tend to undermine peace and harmony.

He made the call Thursday via telephone on a radio program styled Today In the House of Representatives on State Radio ELBC.

The Speaker acknowledges the passion and dedication of Pleebo citizens in their pursuit of a better future. He challenges all to channel their energies into productive discussions and peaceful actions, emphasizing that together, they can achieve their aspirations and bring about positive change.

The Speaker call was predicated upon ongoing investigation by the National Elections Commission, against the representative election results in Pleebo.

It can be recalled, a precinct in Old Sodoken, comprising two polling places, were plagued with series of controversies during the October 10, 2023, elections which involved the appearance of a Mask dancer ‘Country Devil’ scaring away CDC observers and the reported stuffing of ballot papers to the disadvantage of Speaker Chambers.

Ballot stuffing among other things is refer to generally as an act of casting illegal votes.

However, Speaker Chambers, assured his constituents of a positive outcome of the investigation.

“We have unabated trust and confidence in the National Elections Commission, at the end of the day justice will prevail. The case is proceeding well, there was the first engagement with the lawyers and things are going well because the truth will never be buried. However it is trumpet upon shall rise up, and whatever the case is the people of Pleebo Sodoken district will be the beneficiaries”. Speaker asserts.

The Maryland County lawmaker reaffirm his commitment to the development earmarked for Pleebo. “The well-being and progress of the district remain a top priority. Rest assured, the earmarked development projects will continue as planned, and the people of Pleebo will see positive changes that will improve their quality of life”. He stated.

At the same time the citizens of Pleebo are currently abuzz with anticipation for the forthcoming rerun of the election in the Old Sodoken district, including the areas of Gbolobo, Witchoken, and Gbololu. Their excitement stems from the alleged stuffing of ballots and an intimidating appearance of a mask dancer during the initial election, which led to the hasty retreat of election observers.

Speaker Bhofal Chambers, a respected figure in the community, swiftly lodged an official complaint with the National Elections Commission (NEC), and the first hearing took place this past Tuesday. The Pleebo citizens cannot contain their enthusiasm to participate in the rerun, as they find the outcome of the initial election incredulous, considering it went against their longstanding lawmaker, Bhofal Chambers.

During the first hearing, it was notable that the other party’s candidate, Anthony Williams, failed to be accompanied by his legal counsel. Consequently, the NEC has rescheduled the hearing for Thursday, allowing all parties to ensure fair and comprehensive representation in this vital process.

Elders, women, and youth in Pleebo are filled with enthusiasm and determination as they eagerly prepare to exercise their democratic right by casting their votes in the rerun election. Their unity and dedication to re-electing Bhofal Chambers for a fourth term are evident and commendable. The district calls upon the National Elections Commission to expedite the investigation into the alleged irregularities, ensuring the transparency and fairness of the electoral process.

Pleebo citizens remain steadfast in their commitment to upholding the democratic principles upon which their district is built. They eagerly await the opportunity to cast their votes in the rerun election, a crucial event that will determine the representation of their district in the coming years.
