Africa-Press – Liberia. The representative of Grand Kru County electoral District #2, J. Fonati Koffa has been elected Speaker of the 55th legislature. He defeated his rival, Richard Nagbe Koon of Montserrado County District #11 by five votes. Koffa accumulated 36 votes of the 67 total that were cast while Koon obtained 31 votes.
The electoral process was tension-packed as both Koffa, who is a lawmaker of the outgoing Coalition for Democratic Change, and Koon of the incoming Unity Party battled it out for the leadership of the Lower House.
