Monrovia-The wife of Liberia’s vice president Jeremiah Koung, Stephine Dahn-Koung has hailed officials of the Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation (LNWBF) for organizing the federation first ever tournament.

She assured the Wheel Chair Basketball federation of her fullest support to members of the disable community.

Madam. Stephine Dahn-Koung made the commitment on Saturday February 17, at the Unification Sports Park in the PHP community when the LNWBF heldit’s first pre-basketball tournament as part of their preparation for its evernational league scheduled to kickoff this year.

Madam Koung disclosed that she decided to be with members of the LNWBF sporting body to prove to them that she is with them and her visit came after she held meeting with officials of the Group of 77 about the federation basketball tournament and so she was happy to be with them to see for herself the talents of the athletes.

“As second Lady of the Republic of Liberia, I want to pledge my support and in my capacity whatever I can do with the help of the Liberia Government I’m going to do it to make sure that we put smile on your faces because what so ever concern you also concern me and what make you happy make me happy.” Madam Koung.

Meanwhile the Goodwill Ambassador of LNWBF Mamie Free who also at the one-day tournament highlighted that the aim of sporting federation is to promote and empower athletes of the LNWBF after been isolated from sporting activities in Liberia.

Ambassador Free told reporters that federation tournament is the prelude of their athlete’s preparation for local and international competitions.

“We have come to help promote empower our brothers and sisters with disabilities to showcase their talents but wheelchair basketball sports is not well known in Liberia and that’s why we are trying to promote sports among the disable males and females who are having passion for the game.” ambassador Free said.

She added that the tournament was the first of its kind even though the federation have been having some exhibition matches among its athletes but the tournament is the first in the history of LNWBF and that they are aiming to have the sports expose to Liberians so that those with disabilities who have passion for the game can show their talents.

The Chairman and Board Directors of the LNWBF Mrs. Florence Mamusu Thomas assured members of the federation that they as officials will continue engage interested institutions for support in the interest of disable Liberians that are interested in the sporting arena.

Mrs. Florence Mamusu Thomas added that she as Chairman and members of the federation board of directors cannot do all for the improvement of the federation sporting arena so they are not going to continue their engagement of interested people and institutions for supports on behalf of the federation.
