Africa-Press – Liberia. Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND) remains committed to its role as a civil society organization advocating for the rights of ordinary Liberians, according to its Chairman, Mulbah Morlu. Speaking at the inauguration of STAND’s new office in Congo Town, Monrovia, on Friday, Morlu clarified that STAND will not transition into a political party.

“STAND is here to advocate for the people, not to seek political power,” Morlu emphasized, adding that only those engaged in corruption should fear the organization. “The only ones who should be concerned about STAND are those officials misusing public resources and violating the trust of the Liberian people,” he said.

Morlu’s speech underscored STAND’s core mission of fighting corruption and bad governance. “On behalf of STAND and its thousands of members across the country, I assure Liberians that we are here to stand up for what is right and to pursue those corrupting the public office,” he stated. “If you are in government and engaging in corrupt practices, expect STAND to hold you accountable.”

Reaffirming the organization’s impartiality, Morlu said, “We are not motivated by any political incentives. Our focus is on fostering peace, stability, and democratic growth in Liberia.” He also emphasized the group’s commitment to advancing change in Liberia, even if it involves personal risk. “Liberia deserves better, and we believe change must come now,” he declared.

Several notable civil society leaders attended the event to show support and to encourage STAND’s mission of transparency and accountability. Counselor Dempster Brown, Chairman of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR) of Liberia, commended STAND for its advocacy efforts while cautioning the organization to avoid politicization. “Civil society organizations must stay impartial, and STAND’s dedication to human rights is commendable,” Brown stated.

Additionally, Reverend Christopher Toe, Secretary General of the Liberia Council of Churches, congratulated STAND and expressed support on behalf of LCC President Reverend Doctor Samuel Reeves. “STAND has shown dedication to the people’s rights, and we are ready to work together for social justice in Liberia,” he said.

Kuku Reeves, Secretary General of the National Muslim Council of Liberia, echoed this sentiment, pledging the Council’s support for STAND’s advocacy. “We support STAND’s mission and are committed to its work for justice and equality,” he noted.

The event drew a large crowd, including representatives from various civil society organizations, women’s and youth groups, and leaders from across Monrovia, all signaling broad support for STAND’s mission to bring positive change to Liberia.
