Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO), in collaboration with the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization, over the weekend conducted a one-day E-Service sensitization workshop for IP Attorneys and Agents in the country.
LIPO Director General, Garmai Koboi, highlighted the importance of empowering agents and lawyers with digital tools to safeguard intellectual property rights and enhance the IP landscape in the region.
She noted that the workshop is part of an effort to enhance the understanding of digital tools and services available to protect and promote intellectual property rights across the region and collectively empower agents to better serve their communities and strengthen the IP landscape in Liberia.
“Today’s workshop is a continuation of that mission, but it focuses on equipping IP agents and lawyers with the practical knowledge needed to navigate ARIPO’s filing procedures. As practitioners on the frontlines of IP administration, you play a crucial role in helping innovators, businesses, and creators protect their intellectual assets. Your mastery of these filing procedures will not only ensure compliance but also contribute to the overall efficiency and growth of the IP system in Liberia,” Madam Koboi said.
The LIPO boss further stressed that the Government of Liberia, through the Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO), is immensely grateful to the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) for sponsoring the workshop and providing facilitators whose expertise guided the learning sessions on the filing procedures for intellectual property at the level of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization.
This workshop came on the heels of a four-day intensive capacity-building session for the staff of the Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO). “This helps to strengthen the technical expertise of our team in the filing and administration of industrial property instruments, including patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and utility models, under ARIPO’s regional framework,” She said. “We are confident that the enhanced skills acquired by LIPO staff will improve service delivery and facilitate efficient handling of IP applications across various sectors.”

The Deputy Minister for Small Business Administration at the Ministry of commerce, P. Benedict Dolo, commended LIPO and ARIPO for their proactive approach in enhancing the capacity of IP agents to align with global standards.
An ARIPO representative reiterated the organization’s commitment to leveraging digital technologies for operational efficiency, stakeholder engagement, data security, and innovation.
