IDAD and InfoQuest Liberia Welcome Supreme Court’s Bill of Information Ruling, Urge Legislature to Comply

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Institute for Democratic Action & Development (IDAD) and InfoQuest Liberia (IQ) have welcomed Wednesday’s ruling by the Supreme Court of Liberia regarding the Bill of Information filed by Jonathan Koffa against the Majority Bloc of the House of Representatives.

In a statement, the two institutions described the ruling as a landmark decision that reinforces the fundamental principles of separation of powers and constitutional governance — principles essential to Liberia’s democratic development.

According to them, the Supreme Court’s ruling serves as a critical reminder that all branches of government, including the Legislature, must operate within the constitutional framework governing Liberia.

IDAD and InfoQuest emphasized that by affirming limitations on legislative actions and upholding the constitutional rights of public officials, the Court has demonstrated its crucial role as the ultimate guardian of the nation’s Constitution.

The two human rights organizations called on the Legislature and the Executive Branch to fully respect and implement the Court’s decision without delay, as prescribed by the laws of Liberia.

Additionally, IDAD and InfoQuest stressed that compliance with judicial decisions, particularly those from the Supreme Court, is not optional but a fundamental requirement of Liberia’s constitutional democracy.

They further emphasized that the rule of law demands that no institution, regardless of its authority, should operate beyond constitutional limits.

IDAD and InfoQuest also noted that the ruling presents an opportunity for all branches of government to recommit to the principles of constitutional governance, mutual respect, and separation of powers.

“These principles are not mere procedural requirements but the foundation upon which our nation’s stability and progress depend,” the statement read.

Both organizations praised the Supreme Court for its commitment to upholding democratic principles, the rule of law, and constitutional governance, which are critical to maintaining Liberia’s peaceful environment.

IDAD and InfoQuest reiterated their readiness to work with all stakeholders to strengthen Liberia’s democratic institutions and promote a deeper understanding of constitutional governance among citizens. They expressed hope that the Legislature, particularly the House of Representatives, would fully accept the ruling and foster democratic governance and the rule of law in Liberia.
