Africa-Press – Liberia. The Government of Liberia has proposed “social innovation” as a critical solution to address growing global labour challenges, highlighting its potential to create sustainable and transformative changes in the world of work.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Labour, Liberia’s proposal was outlined in remarks delivered by Labour Minister, Hon. Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr., at the recent Global Government Summit held in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.
Minister Kruah told the gathering of global labour leaders that the world faces mounting issues — from poverty and inequality to climate change and global health crises — that require innovative and holistic solutions beyond traditional approaches. He stressed that social innovation, which involves the development and deployment of effective solutions to systemic social, cultural, economic, and environmental challenges, is key to improving the quality of life for individuals, communities, and larger societies.
“We are in need of solutions that go beyond conventional methods, using social innovation and holistic strategies,” Minister Kruah emphasized. “Such initiatives must integrate both economic and social factors, with social innovators playing vital roles, particularly in the workplace, including industrial conglomerates.”
He noted that through social innovation, sustainable solutions with far-reaching impacts can be developed and implemented globally. He cited several examples of contemporary social innovation, including clean water projects in developing nations, mobile banking and financial services, crowdfunding platforms for social causes, and sustainable energy solutions across Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Region.
Highlighting another critical area, Minister Kruah pointed to the importance of digital education programs as a component of social innovation. He explained that digital learning initiatives are vital in providing educational opportunities to students unable to access traditional institutions and are equally beneficial to millions of workers across both the formal and informal sectors within the Tripartite Constituency (Government, Employers, and Workers).
The release, signed by E. Frederick Baye, Deputy Director of Communications and Public Affairs of the Ministry of Labour, stated that earlier during the week-long summit, Minister Kruah extended commendations to the host, Luxembourg’s Labour Minister Hon. Georges Mischo, and thanked fellow global labour officials for the opportunity to present Liberia’s vision. He conveyed President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s commitment to transforming Liberia’s labour sector and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fully implementing all regional and international labour protocols to which Liberia is a signatory.
Following the successful conclusion of the Global Government Summit, Minister Kruah and his delegation have returned to Liberia.
