Liberian international goalkeeper Ashley Williams has officially ended his nine-year tenure with LISCR Football Club, marking the conclusion of a remarkable chapter in both his career and the club’s recent history.

Williams, who joined the “Shipping Boys” at just 17, leaves the club as one of its most decorated and consistent performers, having helped guide LISCR to multiple domestic titles and establish itself as a dominant force in Liberian football.

In a statement released Wednesday, LISCR FC confirmed Williams’ departure, along with that of teammates Mark Karlay, John Momo, Prince Bono, and Darius Kay, following the expiration of their contracts.

Reflecting on his exit, Williams expressed heartfelt gratitude to the club and its supporters. “Big thanks and appreciation to the LISCR Football Club organization for the time and all the experiences – the wins, losses, pain, sweat, and tears,” he said in a message posted on social media. “The bond we created means I’m forever grateful… this family will always be my family as I embark on a new journey.”

Speaking to FrontPage Africa, Williams revealed that he had informed the club of his decision a month earlier, driven primarily by a desire to improve his chances of returning to the national team. “If I remain at LISCR, it’s less likely I’ll be selected because national team coaches often avoid picking two goalkeepers from the same club,” he explained.

Williams previously represented Liberia at both U-20 and senior levels and is now seeking fresh opportunities to further his international ambitions.

During his time at LISCR, Williams earned widespread respect for his leadership, shot-stopping prowess, and composure in high-pressure moments. He captained the side in numerous fixtures and played a pivotal role in its championship-winning campaigns.

“It’s been an unforgettable and successful period since I arrived,” he said. “As a young boy coming here, I never imagined we would achieve so much together.”

LISCR FC thanked Williams and the other departing players for their contributions, wishing them well in their future endeavors. Williams is expected to announce his next club soon.
