Africa-Press – Liberia. The LPRC Oilers Sports Association (OSA) has officially unveiled a contingent of foreign-based basketball players recruited from Nigeria, a strategic move aimed at reinforcing the squad for the 2026–2027 season.
At an unveiling ceremony held at the corporation’s headquarters, the Deputy Managing Director for Administration, Jacob Smith, expressed confidence that the infusion of international talent would elevate the team’s competitiveness and solidify the Oilers’ standing as a dominant force in Liberian basketball.
On behalf of the Board, Hon. Smith formally presented the new recruits to Managing Director Hon. Amos B. Tweh, highlighting the institution’s unwavering commitment to sports development and excellence.
In his keynote remarks, Managing Director Tweh welcomed the Nigerian imports, emphasizing the core values of discipline, teamwork, and professionalism.
He noted that LPRC remains dedicated to nurturing both local and international talent while using sports as a vehicle for national unity.
The new signings include specialists at the point guard and shooting guard positions, along with a high-impact “dunk specialist.” These additions are expected to play pivotal roles in the Oilers’ quest to dominate the Liberia Basketball Federation (LBF) league and sustain a high level of play.
The move marks a broader initiative by the LPRC Oilers to remain at the forefront of the Liberian hardwood while expanding the club’s international footprint through strategic recruitment.
The Oilers, historically one of the most successful clubs in the country, are looking to reclaim their top-tier status following recent competitive shifts in the league.
