Africa-Press – Liberia. The opposition Liberty Party, one of the UP alliance parties during the 2023 general elections celebrated its 20th anniversary over the weekend under the theme: Democratic Legacy to Cherish. The Party through its officials expressed their optimism of producing the country’s next President.
Liberty Party (LP) Chairperson, Montserrado County District #1 Representative Rugie Barry, said the anniversary spotlight the party’s founding values and honoring the legacy of its late political leader, Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine.
The event brought together partisans and key stakeholders of the party as they look to verge into governance roles.
During the occasion, a memorized photo of the late former political leader Cllr. Brumskine was uncovered, with partisans, making significant contributions towards the exercise.
The anniversary was also characterized by the unveiling of Cllr. Brumskine’s portrait and the dedication of a memorial hall named in his honor.
Party officials and supporters hailed Brumskine as a towering figure in Liberia’s democratic evolution and praised his enduring influence on the Party’s direction.
During the event, the Party also named two of its major offices after key figures in its current leadership. The main conference room was designated as the Eugene Fallah Kpaka Conference Room, while the Secretariat Office was renamed in honor of Political Leader Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence.
In her remarks, Senator Karnga-Lawrence reaffirmed the Party’s commitment to democratic ideals, pledging to uphold the legacy of Cllr. Brumskine through continual advocacy for the rule of law, transparency, and inclusiveness in governance.
She emphasized the need for unity and forward-looking leadership as the party enters its third decade.
This milestone was also seen as a moment of introspection and recommitment to the Party’s founding principles.
As it moves forward, the Liberty Party pledged to deepen its role in national development and political reform.
Officials, including T. Wilson Gaye, Deputy Managing Director for Administration at the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), stressed that the ideals of Cllr. Brumskine will continue to guide their mission to create a Liberia where liberty, justice, and opportunity are realities for all.
Gaye, stressed that the party is optimistic of producing the next President of Liberia, through a democratic electoral process.
