Africa-Press – Liberia. The Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) has called for the protection of civil liberties, responsible conduct by security forces, and peaceful assembly by protesters.
In an official release signed by ULAA National President Mohammed “MSG1” Keita, the U.S.-based diaspora umbrella organization reaffirmed its support for Liberians’ constitutional rights to peaceful protest, freedom of expression, and public petition, emphasizing that these rights are the bedrock of any functioning democracy and must be protected at all times.
Keita urged the Government of Liberia, through its security agencies, to exercise the highest level of restraint, professionalism, and adherence to the rule of law in its response to the upcoming protest.
He stated that protesters must be allowed to assemble and express their grievances without fear of intimidation, harassment, or violence, warning that the international community is watching and that the government’s handling of the protest will reflect its commitment to democratic governance and human rights.
ULAA’s intervention comes amid growing national and international attention surrounding the protest, which organizers say is intended to spotlight economic hardship, governance failures, and concerns over executive overreach under the Boakai administration.
While affirming the legitimacy of public dissent, Keita also called on protest organizers and participants to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the demonstration, urging all citizens to demonstrate their patriotism not just in demanding change, but in preserving peace while doing so.
The statement further appealed to a broad range of national stakeholders—including religious leaders, civil society organizations, political figures, the media, and social media influencers—to help prevent tensions from escalating. Keita emphasized that dialogue, respect for dissent, and nonviolence must remain guiding principles in a country still healing from years of civil conflict.
He reminded all parties that Liberia belongs to every citizen and that the concerns of the people must be heard without silencing the governed, while simultaneously preserving the fragile peace the country currently enjoys.
The organization stressed that while citizens have a right to voice grievances, this must occur within a framework that protects the integrity of Liberia’s democratic and constitutional order.
ULAA called for a unifying appeal for all Liberians, both at home and abroad, to recommit themselves to justice, accountability, and national unity, reiterating its dedication to peace, good governance, and the democratic process.
