Representative Robert Flomo Womba, Chair of the UP-House Caucus and Representative of Bong County District #4, praised Speaker Koon’s “visionary and steadfast leadership” in laying the groundwork for what he described as a “historic journey in regional legislative collaboration.”
Legislative Caucus in the House of Representatives has commended House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon for his leadership in spearheading the formation of the Mano River Union Parliamentary Body (MRUPB) — a move hailed as a major step toward strengthening regional cooperation and legislative diplomacy.
The MRUPB was officially launched on Sunday, July 20, at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Monrovia. The high-level ceremony brought together the Speakers of all four Mano River Union member states — Segepoh Solomon Thomas of Sierra Leone, Dr. Dansa Kourouma of Guinea, and Adama Bictogo of Côte d’Ivoire — along with parliamentary delegates and dignitaries. The event was also graced by the President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Representative Robert Flomo Womba, Chair of the UP-House Caucus and Representative of Bong County District #4, praised Speaker Koon’s “visionary and steadfast leadership” in laying the groundwork for what he described as a “historic journey in regional legislative collaboration.”
“The establishment of the MRUPB is a bold and innovative step that marks a significant milestone in advancing regionalism, legislative diplomacy, and political cooperation in the Mano River basin,” Rep. Womba said.
He emphasized that the new parliamentary body is expected to play a critical role in promoting economic integration, cross-border collaboration, and sustainable development across the sub-region.
“By harmonizing laws, facilitating trade, and enhancing cooperation, the MRUPB will open up new avenues for employment, investment, and shared prosperity — not just for Liberia, but for all member states,” the statement added.
Rep. Womba called on members of the 55th Legislature to rally behind the initiative and provide the support needed to ensure its success.
“The Unity Party House Caucus stands fully in support of this initiative and urges our legislative colleagues to reaffirm their commitment to ensuring this new body delivers real impact for the people of the Mano River basin.”
