Africa-Press – Liberia. The River Gee County Health Team (RGCHT) has successfully concluded a three-day training focused on digitizing the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI).
The training, held from July 21 to July 23, 2025, brought together more than 50 health workers from the county’s 20 health facilities. Among the participants were vaccinators, Registered Midwives (RMs), District Child Survival Focal Persons, and County Health Team-level supervisors.
The initiative is being implemented through support from UNICEF in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
Acting County Health Officer and Director of the Community Health Department, Mr. Eric Sneh Chea, launched the training. He welcomed the participants and acknowledged their dedication, especially those who traveled long distances to attend the sessions.
“This digital training is essential for improving our health facility reporting system,” Mr. Chea told attendees. “Let us all take it seriously so that the quality of reports from each facility can significantly improve.”
The training sessions were led by facilitators from the Ministry of Health based in Monrovia. They emphasized the evolving role of Registered Midwives in the digital reporting system, noting that RMs will serve as direct supervisors to vaccinators and be accountable for managing the smartphones assigned for real-time data submission at their facilities.
The new digital approach is intended to streamline immunization records and enhance the accuracy of health data reporting from rural health centers to central databases.
Participants expressed gratitude to both the Ministry of Health and the River Gee County Health Team for bringing the training to their region. Several health workers said the initiative would improve their efficiency and reduce delays in submitting immunization data.
They also called on the Ministry of Health and its partners to maintain consistent support to the health sector in River Gee County and across Liberia, stressing the importance of follow-up and sustained capacity-building to strengthen health outcomes nationwide.
