Africa-Press – Liberia. In a show of support for youth empowerment and sports diplomacy, Joanna Markbreiter, the British Embassy’s Deputy Head of Mission in Monrovia, visited the Liberia U-17 Women’s National Team during a training session on Wednesday, August 13, 2025
The team was at Blue Field in the PHP Community, preparing for the upcoming WAFU A U-17 Women’s Tournament, which Liberia will host in September. This marks the first time Liberia will host a major regional youth women’s football event.
Ambassador Markbreiter was greeted by Liberia Football Association (LFA) 3rd Vice President Jodie Reid-Seton, FIFA Talent Coach Ammy Ninje, and members of the technical staff.
She not only observed the training but also offered motivational words and joined the players for a light drill.

The LFA thanked Ambassador Markbreiter and the UK Embassy, calling the visit a “gesture of solidarity and encouragement” for the development of women’s football in the country.

LFA 3rd vice president Jodie Reid-Seton, highlighted the positive impact of the visit on the players. “Moments like these leave a lasting impression on the girls, “Madam Reid-Seton said. “They feel seen, valued, and inspired to work harder, especially as they prepare to represent Liberia in the upcoming WAFU tournament.”
The visit is seen as a strong endorsement of the LFA’s efforts to empower female footballers and nurture talent, particularly under the FIFA Talent Development Scheme.
With the tournament fast approaching, the U-17 team’s preparations are in the spotlight as they represent a new generation of Liberian athletes.
