Africa-Press – Liberia. The West African Football Union (WAFU Zone A), in collaboration with the Liberia Football Association (LFA), has appointed Boris Weah, Chairman of the Gardnerville Subcommittee, as General Coordinator for the upcoming WAFU Zone A U-17 Girls Tournament, slated for September 18, 2025, in Monrovia.

Weah, a seasoned grassroots football administrator, has steadily risen through the ranks of local football management.

He previously served as General Secretary of the Central Monrovia Subcommittee before being appointed Chairman of the Gardnerville Subcommittee. His latest appointment is being hailed as recognition of his consistent leadership and contribution to football development in Liberia.

In an interview following his appointment, Weah expressed gratitude and described the role as both an honor and a responsibility.

“This appointment is not about me alone, it is about Liberia. I am humbled by the confidence reposed in me by WAFU and the LFA. I see this as an opportunity to showcase Liberian football administration at its best,” he said.

Weah emphasized his commitment to professionalism, transparency, and integrity.

“I promise to serve with dignity, integrity, and full dedication. My role as General Coordinator is to ensure that every aspect of the tournament runs smoothly. This is a big stage, and we must get it right,” he noted.

He also dedicated the achievement to his colleagues in grassroots football, stressing that his journey reflects the importance of nurturing administrators at the community level.

“I started from the grassroots, and this proves that when you work hard and remain committed, opportunities will come. I dedicate this appointment to every grassroots administrator in Liberia. Our work matters,” Weah added.

The LFA has described his appointment as part of its ongoing human capacity development initiative, an effort to provide more opportunities for Liberian administrators to gain international exposure and experience.

Local football stakeholders have congratulated Weah, expressing confidence that he will represent Liberia with distinction.

His role will involve coordinating match operations, logistics, and organizational standards for the regional competition, which will bring together some of West Africa’s brightest young female football talents.

Meanwhile The West African Football Union ( WAFU A) Zone A has appointed several Liberians in key roles as part of the organization of the first edition of the WAFU-A U17 Girls Tournament, which will take place in Liberia from 18th to 28th September.

The tournament will feature three countries including Senegal, Sierra Leone and hosts Liberia.

Those appointed include:Tickly D. Monkoney, Jr – Organizing Committee, Emmett Crayton – Organizing Committee, Jodie Reid-Seton – Match Commissioner, Alex Nagbo- Protocol Officer, Anthony Kokoi – Media and Marketing Officer, Dr. Moses Tarawali – Medical Officer,Boris Weah – General Coordinator,Isaac T. Montgomery – Referee Assessor,Abraham B. Fahnbulleh – Fitness Instructor,Madea Beatrice Edwins – Security Officer

This will mark the sixth WAFU tournament to be hosted in Liberia since 2018.
