Africa-Press – Liberia. The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has established a Specialized Committee of Enquiry to investigate the recent incident involving journalist Franklin Doloquee and the Minister of Information, Jerolinmek M. Piah.
The Committee, chaired by veteran journalist and media development specialist Mrs. Torwon Solunteh–Brown, also includes Attorney-at-Law Bruce Boweh and Mr. Adama Kiatamba Dempster, National Secretary-General of the Civil Society Human Rights Platform of Liberia. The Committee has been mandated to submit its findings and recommendations to the PUL leadership by Friday, September 19, 2025.
According to reports, on Saturday, September 13, 2025, in Sanniquellie, Nimba County, Minister Piah allegedly seized journalist Doloquee’s mobile phone during an interview, deleted photos and video recordings, and has not yet returned the device. Journalist Doloquee has formally lodged a complaint with the PUL, seeking its intervention.
While the investigation is ongoing, the PUL urges all sides to exercise professionalism and restraint, stressing that the integrity of journalism and public information must always be respected.
