Africa-Press – Liberia. House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon has thrown the full weight of the Liberia National Legislature behind the push for greater inclusivity and rights for persons with disabilities (PWDs), vowing that “no Liberian is left behind.”

Serving as keynote Speaker over the weekend in commemoration of the International Week of the Deaf and the International Day of Sign Language, hosted by the National Commission on Disabilities (NCD) in Oldest Congo Town, House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon praised resilience, pledged policy action that will include the people living with disability

In his address, Speaker Koon gave an unwavering commitment to championing policies that protect the dignity, rights and equal opportunities of persons living with disabilities.

He emphasized that the House of Representatives will work in close partnership with the NCD and other key partners to ensure these legislative promises translate into tangible improvements in the lives of PWDs.

“The House of Representatives will work closely with the NCD and other partners to ensure that no Liberian is left behind,” Speaker Koon stated.

The Speaker also took time to praise the resilience and significant contributions of persons with disabilities, stressing that their voices and talents are vital to Liberia’s democratic growth and overall national development.

For his part, the Executive Director of the National Commission on Disabilities (NCD) Samuel Dean, praised Speaker Koon for being a “Disability-Friendly Speaker and a champion for making the NCD a full commission that will provide several jobs and opportunities for people living with disability.

According to him, the International Week of the Deaf and the International Day of Sign Language, are held annually as a platform to celebrate the efforts of individuals and organizations working diligently to advance the welfare and rights of PWDs across the country.
