Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, received a donation of modern office and field equipment valued at USD 33,000 from Conservation International (CI) to enhance the Authority’s efforts in protecting Liberia’s marine and coastal environment.

The donation, which includes laptops, GPS devices, cameras, and desktop computers, is aimed at strengthening LiMA’s Environmental Department’s technical and operational capacity.

Presenting the equipment, Mr. Momodu Michael Kemokai, Country Director of Conservation International, said the support is part of CI’s continued commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and ecosystem protection in Liberia.

He explained that the donation falls under the Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded Natural Capital Accounting Project, through which a USD 36,000 income grant was made available to support data collection and analysis for effective environmental management.

“This gesture is intended to assist the Liberia Maritime Authority in strengthening its monitoring and environmental protection work, particularly in safeguarding the marine ecosystem,” Mr. Kemokai stated.

Welcoming CI officials to the headquarters of LiMA, Mr. Bohmen sahn Yuan, Director of Marine Environmental Protection at LiMA, expressed gratitude to Conservation International for the timely contribution.

He described the donation as a direct result of a partnership agreement between LiMA and CI that is focused on advancing maritime environmental protection and sustainable management of Liberia’s marine resources.

“This collaboration reflects our shared vision of ensuring that Liberia’s marine and coastal environments are protected for current and future generations,” Mr. Yuan noted.

Also speaking, Mr. John F. Harvey, Deputy Commissioner for Domestic Vessel Registration and Safety at LiMA, commended Conservation International for identifying with the Authority. He assured CI that the donated items will be used strictly for their intended purpose.

“We appreciate this valuable support and reaffirm our commitment to utilizing these tools effectively in advancing LiMA’s environmental protection and maritime safety objectives,” Mr. Harvey said.

The Liberia Maritime Authority remains committed to working with its national and international partners in promoting sustainable maritime governance, environmental protection, and the responsible management of Liberia’s blue economy.
