Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, and Liberia’s Chief Justice, Yamie QuiQui Gbeisay, met to brainstorm and share ideas on knowledge transfer, bilateral judicial cooperation, and the continued development of the China-Liberia strategic partnership.
Chief Justice Gbeisay expressed his commitment and gratitude for advancing bilateral judicial cooperation and promoting friendly relations between the two countries.
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai nominated Chief Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay on June 30, 2025, and the nomination was subsequently confirmed by the Liberian Senate around July 17, 2025, following confirmation hearings, succeeding the retired Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh, marking a significant judicial transition.
The appointment followed the constitutional retirement of former Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh, who reached the mandatory retirement age of 70.
Justice Gbeisay, previously an Associate Justice, was praised for his legal expertise and integrity by the Judiciary of Liberia and in President Boakai’s nomination letter.
The strategic meeting was held on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the Chinese Embassy in Congo Town, the oldest part of Monrovia.
During the meeting, Amb. Yin extended congratulations to Chief Justice Gbeisay on assuming office and briefed him on the state of China-Liberia relations.
The Chinese envoy, at the same time, expressed his willingness to work together to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and promote the continuous development of the China-Liberia strategic partnership.
Furthermore, Amb. Yin also briefed Chief Justice Gbeisay on the outcomes of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, as well as China’s efforts to advance law-based governance on all fronts.
For his part, Chief Justice Yamie QuiQui Gbeisay expressed appreciation and gratitude to the People’s Republic of China through Ambassador Yin Chengwu for the strategic partnership between both countries
