Africa-Press – Liberia. Dr. Teeko T. Yorlay, Sr., Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Liberia to the French Republic, on Friday, December 19, received Mr. Cheikh Sylla, President of Bourges Football Club, on a courtesy visit at the Embassy of Liberia near Paris.

Bourges Football Club is owned by Senegalese international football star Sadio Mané, who currently plays for Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr.

According to a release, the meeting focused on exploring potential areas of collaboration between Bourges Football Club and the Republic of Liberia, with particular emphasis on sports development.

Discussions centered on opportunities to strengthen Liberia’s sports sector and to provide young Liberian athletes with access to professional training and international exposure in France.

Ambassador Yorlay underscored Liberia’s openness to business and strategic partnerships that contribute to national development. He emphasized the Government of Liberia’s commitment to initiatives that promote youth empowerment, sports development, and sustainable investment.

During the engagement, Ambassador Yorlay proposed that Bourges Football Club—currently competing in France’s fourth division—could serve as a platform for identifying and nurturing Liberian football talent in both men’s and women’s football. He suggested that promising athletes could be brought to France to further develop their skills and gain exposure to broader professional opportunities. The Ambassador also extended an invitation to Mr. Sylla and his delegation to visit Liberia during the ongoing National County Sports Meet, which would provide an opportunity to scout emerging talent in need of international exposure.

For his part, Mr. Sylla expressed strong interest in partnering with the Embassy to support sports development initiatives in Liberia. He requested that the Embassy submit a detailed proposal outlining the anticipated role and responsibilities of Bourges Football Club under the proposed partnership. Mr. Sylla assured that the Club would respond promptly upon receipt of the proposal, clarifying the level of engagement and support it could offer toward sports and business development in Liberia.

Ambassador Yorlay expressed appreciation to Mr. Sylla and his delegation for the visit and reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to fostering strong and mutually beneficial relations with Bourges Football Club, as well as with other prospective partners in Paris and across France. He further committed to submitting a formal communication detailing the proposed partnership and how it could best serve the interests of both Bourges Football Club and young Liberian footballers.
