Several Liberians, especially members of the Islamic faith and the Mandingo tribe, are preparing to commemorate the posthumous legacy and national contributions of the founding father of the All Liberian Coalition Party (ALCOP) and former Minister of Information, Alhaji G. V. Kromah.

The Memorial Service and Legacy Celebration is being organized by the Professor Alhaji G. V. Kromah Memorial Service and Legacy Celebration Group. The event aims to unite Liberians across political affiliations, ethnic backgrounds, and religious beliefs to collectively honor a man whose life exemplified patriotism, intellectual courage, and selfless service.

The public Memorial Service and Legacy Celebration will take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2026, serving as a solemn yet celebratory occasion to reflect on Professor Kromah’s decades of service to Liberia in journalism, education, public administration, diplomacy, sports development, and national leadership.

According to Abdullah A. Sesay, Director of Communication for the organizing group, Liberians from all walks of life will gather on Tuesday to honor the life, leadership, and enduring legacy of Professor Kromah.

Sesay described Prof. Kromah as a distinguished patriot, scholar, statesman, and unwavering advocate for democratic governance and national unity, noting that his contributions have inspired the nation to gather and honor his legacy as a national patriotic icon.

“The outline of activities for the memorial service is as follows: Date: Tuesday, February 11, 2026; Time: 12:00 noon; Venue: ALCOP Operational Office (Aluminum Factory), Somalia Drive, Gardnerville, Monrovia, Liberia,” he added.

Sesay further highlighted that Prof. Kromah was widely regarded as one of Liberia’s most influential public intellectuals and patriotic voices, demonstrating a rare blend of scholarship, principled leadership, and deep commitment to national service during critical moments in the nation’s history.

The late Kromah passed away on January 18, 2022, at his residence in Sophie Community, Congo Town. He was a Liberian journalist, writer, politician, former warlord, and leader of the United Liberation Movement of Liberia for Democracy (ULIMO) during the Liberian Civil War, as well as the founder and standard-bearer of ALCOP in the 1997 and 2005 general and presidential elections.

A seasoned journalist and educator, Kromah held several high-profile positions in government and public institutions, including Special Assistant to Vice President Bennie D. Warner, Assistant Minister of Information under President William R. Tolbert, Director-General of the Liberia Broadcasting System (1982), and Minister of Information under President Samuel K. Doe (1984). Through these roles, he helped shape public communication, national consciousness, and state messaging during pivotal periods in Liberia’s history.

Beyond executive roles, Professor Kromah was a respected academic, serving as Chairman of the Mass Communications Department at the University of Liberia, where he mentored generations of journalists and communicators. His influence also extended into transitional governance as Vice Chairman of the Council of State of the Liberian National Transitional Government (LNTG), contributing to national stabilization during a fragile post-conflict period.
