The House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Public Works, the Executive Director of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC), the Chairman of the National Investment Commission (NIC), and the Managing Director of the National Bureau of Concessions (NBC) to appear before lawmakers next Thursday. The officials are expected to explain why laws intended to benefit Liberians are allegedly being disregarded, especially amid ongoing economic hardship.
The decision was made on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, following a communication from Grand Bassa County District #5 Representative Thomas A. Goshua. Goshua raised concerns about the failure of relevant institutions to comply with regulations designed to empower Liberians, particularly during challenging economic times.
Goshua emphasized that the 55th Legislature has a responsibility to address the “bread and butter” issues affecting citizens’ well-being and cannot remain passive while opportunities for economic growth and empowerment are undermined.
He specifically highlighted the situation in Grand Bassa County, where residents continue to suffer from unemployment and a lack of development, despite available investment and infrastructure opportunities.
“Unemployment anywhere is a cause for national security risk everywhere. Our people wake up angry because they cannot provide for their families or improve their lives,” Rep. Goshua stated.
He also criticized the practice of awarding contracts to foreign companies while sidelining local businesses in Grand Bassa County, stressing that county residents should benefit directly from investment opportunities.
Rep. Goshua concluded by urging that the people of Grand Bassa County must finally benefit from their land, rather than being excluded from the economic advantages it provides.
