Africa-Press – Liberia. A delegation from the University of Liberia Alumni Association in the Americas (ULIBAAA) is set to participate in the historic 75th Founders’ Day Anniversary of the University of Liberia (UL), underscoring the enduring bond between diaspora alumni and their alma mater.

According to ULIBAAA Vice President Ezax Smith, a high-profile 15-member delegation led by National President Dr. Fatima Greaves-Kwekwe began departing the United States on February 10 and will be in Liberia from February 11 to 28, 2026.

The weeklong celebration will kick off with a Thanksgiving service at the Capitol Hill campus on February 15, followed by an anniversary parade on February 16 and Student Day on February 17. Community and Partners Day is scheduled for February 18, Staff and Faculty Day for February 19, and Alumni Homecoming on February 20. The University of Liberia Alumni Day Chorus Benefit Concert will take place on February 23, with festivities culminating in a Presidential Ball on February 28.

“This visit marks a significant moment for ULIBAAA, a vibrant organization dedicated to fostering academic excellence, alumni engagement, and development projects at UL,” Smith said. The delegation will participate in the full slate of anniversary events, including the Arts & Crafts Exhibition, Alumni Homecoming, Chorus Concert, and the grand 75th Anniversary Dinner and Fundraising Ball.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this historic milestone and the enduring legacy of the University of Liberia. Our presence reaffirms our commitment to UL’s growth and the success of its students and alumni worldwide,” Smith added. Beyond the festivities, the delegation will engage in strategic meetings with key stakeholders, including the University of Liberia Student Union (ULSU), the Alumni Association of the University of Liberia (AAUL), and members of the National Legislature.

The discussions aim to advance ULIBAAA’s mission through potential collaborations, particularly to enhance students’ academic experiences and well-being. The group will also tour ULIBAAA initiatives such as the Fendell Light-Up Project, the Alumni Resource Center, and sites for the possible Phase II of the Chairs Project. Plans are also underway to forge new partnerships with local businesses, further amplifying ULIBAAA’s impact on Liberian education and infrastructure.

ULIBAAA expressed deep honor in sharing this journey with the University of Liberia Alumni Chorus (ULAC). “We pray for safe travels and fruitful engagements that will strengthen our shared vision for UL’s future,” Smith said.

This participation highlights ULIBAAA’s ongoing role in bridging the Liberian diaspora with homeland institutions, building on decades of contributions to UL’s progress.

Founded in 1862 as Liberia College and becoming a full university in 1951, the University of Liberia now has four campuses: Capitol Hill, Fendall, Medical School Fendall, and Starz-Sinji in Grand Cape Mount County. In its early years, Liberia College was funded by the New York Colonization Society and the Trustees of Donation for Education in Liberia (TDEL), both U.S.-based organizations. The cornerstone was laid on January 25, 1858, and the initiative was led by Professor Simon Greenleaf, the Harvard Law Professor who drafted Liberia’s Independence Constitution in 1847.
