Africa-Press – Liberia. The 2023/2024 national county sports meet is now 30 minutes away from reaching the semifinal stage, with three of the finalists already confirmed.

On Saturday, River Gee became the first county to qualify for the semi finals after throwing out Bong County 2-1 in extra time.

Grand Bassa County later joined River Gee on Sunday after a 2-1 win against Montserrado County.

Bassa’s slot in the semifinals was secured through two second half goals from Varney Sando and Augustine Dayougar while Robin Hney scored the consolation for Montserrado.

Both Grand Bassa and Rivergee will face off in a fierce battle in the semifinals.

Lofa County eliminated Bomi County 2-1 with the first goal scored by James Tappeh through a controversial penalty.

Referee George Mobo was rushed to safety by police officers after being chased by angry players and officials of Bomi.

Lofa’s opponents for the semifinals will be known on Monday when Nimba and Grand Gedeh lock horns in the remaining 30 minutes of extra time.

Both teams settled to a 2-2 on Saturday evening, but couldn’t continue with the extra 30 due to poor visibility at the SKD stadium.

In the kickball category, defending champions Lofa, Nimba, Bomi, and River Cess are through to the semifinals to battle for the slots in the final.

Lofa and Nimba will battle things out in the first semifinals, while River Cess and Bomi will face off in the second match.

The semifinals for both kickball and football are scheduled for Wednesday, May 1, at the SKD Sports Complex.
