Acting DG Orders Audit of State Enterprises for Accountability

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Acting Director General of the Bureau of State Enterprises (BSE), Mr. Varlee F. Sanor, has officially commissioned the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) to conduct a thorough audit of the Bureau.

The BSE oversees more than 20 state-owned enterprises (SOEs) across key sectors such as energy, transport, agriculture, and telecommunications. The institution has recently come under scrutiny for inefficiencies, weak oversight, and poor reporting systems within these entities.

The audit will evaluate financial records, operational processes, and compliance with public sector regulations to ensure greater transparency and accountability within the Bureau.

Mr. Sanor stated that the audit is a vital measure to restore public confidence and strengthen the BSE’s role in monitoring SOEs. “Transparency and accountability are the cornerstones of effective governance,” he said.

The audit is being conducted amid increased government efforts to address mismanagement and inefficiency in public institutions. By involving the IAA—an independent body responsible for enforcing fiscal discipline—the BSE is signaling a commitment to reform and good governance.

Following the audit, the report will be reviewed, and appropriate reforms will be implemented to enhance operational efficiency and openness within the Bureau.

Mr. Sanor called on all BSE staff to cooperate fully with the IAA, emphasizing that the audit is intended to improve the institution, not punish employees.

This initiative aligns with Liberia’s broader goal of sustainable development through improved governance and responsible management of state resources.
