Africa-Press – Liberia. Liberia’s Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with concurrent accreditation to the Holy See, the Republic of Ireland, and the Republic of Malta, Her Excellency Genevieve A. Kennedy, has formally presented her Letters of Credence to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV.
The credentials, issued by His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, accredited Ambassador Kennedy as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Liberia to the Holy See. The ceremony took place at the Third Loggia of the Apostolic Palace at the Vatican, alongside the presentation of credentials by thirteen other ambassadors from Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
In his welcoming address, Pope Leo XIV emphasized that the Holy See would not remain a silent bystander in the face of global inequality and conflict. He underscored that peace is not merely the absence of war, but an active and demanding gift—one that must be built in the human heart and expressed through action.
The Holy Father further stressed that peace requires a conscious commitment to renounce pride and vindictiveness and to resist the temptation to use words as weapons, particularly in times of heightened global tension.
Addressing the broader consequences of global instability, Pope Leo XIV noted that the poor and marginalized bear the greatest burden of conflict and inequality. Echoing the teachings of Pope Francis, he reminded the diplomatic corps that the true measure of a society’s greatness lies in how it treats its most vulnerable members.
In presenting her Letters of Credence, Ambassador Kennedy conveyed to His Holiness the personal greetings and best wishes of President Boakai, as well as those of the Government and people of Liberia. She reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding and historic relations between the Republic of Liberia and the Holy See.
