MONROVIA, February 16 (LINA) – An American journalist and former CNN contributor, Roland S. Martin has urged the government of Liberia to do more to drive the post-Liberia bicentennial narratives through social media platforms including Twitter and Instagram.

Speaking Wednesday when he paid a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Mr. Martin said, though large events are being held in and around Liberia to observe the nation’s bicentennial the government needs to have other social media platforms that will brand the history of the country, adding that more people are not interested in pages but sites.

The American journalist named: Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, among others at social media sites that more people who are in and out of the country follow on a regular basis.

He believes that people need to see images as the Bicentennial celebration continues, adding that people can go to the government social media platforms and get images and videos.

Roland Martin is an American journalist. He was a commentator for TV One, the host of News One Now, and Washington on Watch with Roland S. Martin.

He was also a CNN contributor appearing on variety of shows, including The Situation Room, Anderson Cooper’s AC360, and many others.

He is currently hosting a Web series, Roland Martin Unfiltered on YouTube. Roland Martin had won two NAACP Image Awards.

Meanwhile, Liberia’s Minister of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Ledgerhood Rennie welcomed Mr. Martin’s idea and assured to improve the Bicentennial narratives.

Minister Rennie however explained that the government has a bicentennial website and Facebook page that showcase events of the Bicentennial celebration, adding that the government is working on improving other social media platforms.

According to Min. Rennie, Liberia has a unique history and the Bicentennial is all about retelling that history and telling the rest of the world that Liberia is a place where people can come.

He believes that Liberians have more reasons to be proud and celebrate freedom and its role and leadership in Pan Africanism.

The MICAT boss continued that Liberia has gone through a lot, adding that things were not like this prior to the war.

“Liberia is a beacon of hope for the continent of Africa, we champion the decolonization and independence of African states,” he added.
