ANC Vice Chair steps down following party rift

Africa-Press – Liberia. The National Vice Chair for Finance & Investment of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) and one of its longtime members, Fubbi F. A. Henries has officially resigned, a development that marks a significant shift within the opposition party.

In a letter dated November 24, 2025, addressed to ANC National Chairman Lafayette O. E. Gould, the defeated Representative candidate of district #9, Montserrado County, disclosed that his decision to step down comes immediately after the expiration of his six-month suspension.

He cited concerns about the overdue process, the lack of official communication about his suspension, and his disagreement with the party’s stance on the removal of House Speaker Jonathan F. Koffa as the driving factors behind his departure.

Despite these issues, Henries maintained that his decision is not motivated by personal grievances, saying, “Please note that this decision is not personal against any individual within the Party. I continue to hold deep respect for all those with whom I have worked in the ANC,” he wrote.

The ANC Executive Committee announced henries’ suspension on May 20, 2025. He was one of four suspended individuals, alongside Representatives Anthony Williams, Nathaniel Bahway, and Nyahn Flomo, all sanctioned for failing to appear before an investigative panel. The panel had been set up to examine their involvement in a legislative impasse within the House of Representatives.

According to the ANC, their failure to appear constituted a breach of party discipline, unity, and its established position on the legislative standoff. The action was approved through a two-thirds majority vote, in accordance with Articles 24.5 and 26 of the party’s constitution.

The six-month suspension ran from May 20 to November 20, 2025, during which Henries and the three lawmakers were barred from participating in all ANC activities at both the national and local levels.

While the ANC’s public explanation focused on their non-appearance before the investigative panel, the underlying tension stemmed from the broader legislative impasse.

Now that his resignation has been finalized, Henries, a strong supporter of the Boakai–Koung administration, is reportedly considering the Unity Party (UP) as his next political destination. Political observers say the move all but cements his anticipated defection ahead of the 2029 elections, aligning with his increasingly close ties to the ruling party
