Africa-Press – Liberia. The ArcelorMittal Liberia School System in Yekepa, Nimba County, marked a significant milestone over the weekend by hosting its 18th Graduation and Honoring Ceremony.
The event celebrated the outstanding achievements of 27 students who excelled in the national public examinations, highlighting the school’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and community development.

Out of 33 students who sat for the national exams, 27 distinguished themselves with exceptional results. This remarkable achievement not only positioned the ArcelorMittal Liberia School System as a leading educational institution in the region but also brought pride to Nimba County.

The ceremony, held at the ABC university auditorium in Yekepa, gathered parents, educators, community leaders, and representatives of ArcelorMittal Liberia to honor the graduates’ perseverance and hard work.

Dr. Jesse Noah Mongrue, President of Nimba County University, delivered a powerful keynote address. He congratulated the graduates and emphasized the importance of pursuing higher education and technical skills training to meet the evolving demands of the global workforce. Dr. Mongrue reminded the graduates that success is defined not by the diploma itself, but by how they utilize the knowledge and skills acquired during their education.

“The world today is driven by knowledge, innovation, and technical skills,” Dr. Mongrue stated. “Now that you are armed with one of the most important tools—education—you must remember that it is not the diploma itself that defines your success, but what you do with the knowledge you have gained. Your future is in your own hands.”

He encouraged the graduates to take full advantage of the increasing number of universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions now available in Nimba County and across Liberia, highlighting the improved access to higher learning opportunities in the region.

Dr. Mongrue also spoke about the graduates’ civic and moral responsibilities. He urged them to become agents of positive change and to use their education to address national challenges such as environmental degradation, poverty, and unemployment.

“Liberia needs your innovation, integrity, and commitment. You must play your part in transforming our society for the good of future generations,” he said, reinforcing the critical role of educated youth in nation-building.

Principal Juwle E. Kumeh of the ArcelorMittal Liberia School System expressed immense pride in the graduates’ accomplishments and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to academic excellence. He credited the success to the collaborative efforts of dedicated teachers, supportive parents, and hardworking students.

“We are proud of what our students have accomplished,” Principal Kumeh noted. “This achievement is the result of teamwork—our dedicated teachers, supportive parents, and hardworking students. We will continue to nurture the minds of Liberia’s future leaders.”

Representing the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Mr. Miracle Tarley commended both the school administration and ArcelorMittal Liberia for their ongoing investment in education.

He appealed for additional logistical support, particularly the provision of a school bus, to ease transportation challenges faced by students who often walk long distances to attend classes.

The atmosphere at the ceremony was filled with excitement and pride as graduates received their diplomas, cheered on by their families and community members.

Several students were recognized for their academic excellence, leadership, and community service, underscoring the holistic approach to education championed by the school.

Valedictorian Comfort Y. Dolo spoke on behalf of the graduating class, expressing gratitude to ArcelorMittal Liberia, the faculty, and her parents for their unwavering support. “Today is not the end, but a new beginning,” she declared. “We will go forth with confidence, knowing that we have been well prepared to face the challenges ahead.”

The ceremony concluded with vibrant cultural performances and the presentation of certificates of honor to outstanding staff members in recognition of their dedication and service to the school community.

As ArcelorMittal Liberia continues to expand its operations in Nimba County, its contribution to education through the school system remains one of its most impactful community development initiatives. The company’s sustained support is instrumental in shaping a new generation of educated, skilled, and visionary young Liberians, ensuring a brighter future for the region and the country at large.
