As it happened: Egypt beat Cameroon on penalties to reach final

Africa-Press – Liberia. Egypt won their third consecutive match in extra time to reach Sunday’s final against Senegal. A nervy 0-0 draw saw Cameroon dominate the first half but lack the creative edge of their earlier matches – then ended when Egypt prevailed by keeping their cool in the shootout.

Cameroon were the favourites going into the match thanks to their home advantage and the sparkling form of their dynamic duo Vincent Aboubakar and Karl Toko-Ekambi. They dominated the first half but their form frayed in the second as Egypt found the rhythm that hitherto eluded them in this competition.

The two exhausted teams battled through goalless extra time before a showdown from the penalty spot. The Pharaohs kept calm and did the job, while Cameroon were rattled for the first time in the tournament – sending them crashing out at the penultimate hurdle.
