Africa-Press – Liberia. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. on Friday met with leaders of the “Say No to Drugs” Campaign at the Executive Mansion, receiving a petition that calls for urgent and decisive action to combat drug abuse across Liberia.
The petition urged stronger enforcement of drug laws, expanded rehabilitation and counseling services, nationwide awareness programs, and deeper community engagement to protect young people from substance abuse.
During the meeting, campaign member Anthony Nimely shared his 14-year battle with drug addiction before turning his life around. Now a symbol of hope, Nimely serves as the “Face of the Victims,” advocating for prevention and recovery efforts nationwide.
President Boakai praised the campaign’s courage and dedication, pledging his administration’s “fullest support” to mobilize resources and deliver “tangible, lasting results” in the fight against drugs.
He emphasized that the government welcomes contributions from all sectors of society to address what he has previously declared a “public health emergency.”
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Acting Minister of State Hadja Mamaka Bility, Inspector General of Police Col. Gregory Coleman, Political Advisor MacDella Cooper, Senior Advisor Dr. Augustine Konneh, LDEA Acting Director Anthony K. Souh, and other top aides.
The session ended with a shared commitment to coordinated action uniting government institutions, law enforcement, community leaders, and advocacy groups to confront Liberia’s drug crisis “with urgency, compassion, and resolve.”
