Bong citizens unhappy over delay in completion of CEO’s residence

Africa-Press – Liberia. Residents of Bong County are expressing frustrations regarding the incomplete residence of the County Education Officer’s located in Gbarnga. The construction project, which commenced in 2021, has been left unfinished for several years, raising concerns about welfare of the CEO and broader implications for the educational system.

Speaking to reporters in Bong County on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, a local resident, Mr. Rederson B. K. Tokpah, highlighted the urgency of the matter, noting that the residence was intended to provide accommodation for the County Education Officer.

He said the prolonged abandonment of the project has resulted in dilapidation, leaving the structure in disrepair and uninhabitable.

Madam Estrella Mublah, another concerned resident, expressed her disappointment, stating that the unfinished residence reflects a lack of commitment from the Ministry of Education to ensure proper living conditions for its staff.

“The County Education Officer is a vital figure in our education system, and it is unacceptable that they have left him without a proper residence for so long,” she said.

The citizens are also apprehensive that the deteriorating structure could attract criminals, as it has become a makeshift shelter for homeless individuals. This situation not only poses safety concerns but also undermines the integrity of the local educational framework.

Residents are increasingly calling on the Ministry of Education to prioritize completion of the CEO residence.

They argued that a functional and well-maintained residence is crucial for the effective operation of the education system in Bong County.

“We are appealing to the Ministry of Education to take immediate action and complete this project. Our education system cannot thrive if our Chief Education Officer is living in such deplorable conditions,” one resident stated passionately.

As of now, the Ministry of Education has not issued a response to the citizens’ calls for action, but the community is hopeful for a timely resolution.

They are also urging local authorities and stakeholders to join their appeal for completion of the unfinished residence, stressing the importance of addressing this pressing issue for the betterment of Bong County’s educational landscape.
