Bong County: LACRA rallies local buyers and inspectors

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA) has embarked on a decisive move to strengthen the country’s cocoa and coffee value chains through a two-day Quality Control Inspectorate and Local Produce Buyers Workshop being held at Emmies Place, Duport Road, Zubah Town, from October 14–15, 2025.

The initiative, which brings together key actors in Liberia’s agricultural commodity sector, aims to sharpen participants’ technical knowledge and improve compliance with international quality standards, an essential step toward increasing the market value of Liberia’s cocoa and coffee exports.

Delivering the overview of the workshop, Jallah Kennedy, LACRA’s Technical Consultant, noted that the sessions will focus on quality control standards, grading procedures, warehouse compliance, and traceability systems. He emphasized that proper adherence to these standards is vital to positioning Liberian cocoa and coffee competitively on the global market.

Representing the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Fred Gibson lauded LACRA’s efforts to enforce quality assurance within the sector. “Liberia has a very unique flavor of cocoa; all Liberia needs to do is give it a good standard,” Gibson remarked, underscoring the international appetite for well-processed Liberian produce.

Speaking on behalf of the Authority, Hon. Dan Saryee, Director General of LACRA, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to transforming the country’s agricultural export system through transparency and accountability.

“LACRA is here to change the narrative. Traceability will be the key. We want to ensure that Liberia’s cocoa gains real value on the international market,” he declared, urging participants to take full advantage of the training to strengthen integrity and professionalism in commodity grading.

The workshop forms part of LACRA’s broader strategy to promote standardized inspection, fair trading, and sustainable market practices in the agricultural sector. By empowering local produce buyers and inspectors, the Authority aims to improve product quality, boost farmers’ earnings, and establish Liberia as a trusted global source of premium cocoa and coffee.
