Bong Lawmakers Urged to Return to Session Under Speaker Koffa Following Supreme Court Ruling

Africa-Press – Liberia. Flomo urged the lawmakers to put aside personal or political affiliations and prioritize the national interest by complying fully with the court’s decision.

Political commentator David Flomo has called on Bong County’s legislative delegation to respect the recent Supreme Court ruling affirming J. Fonati Koffa as the legitimate Speaker of the House of Representatives and to return to session under his leadership.

In a statement released over the weekend, Flomo, a native of Bong County, urged the lawmakers to put aside personal or political affiliations and prioritize the national interest by complying fully with the court’s decision.

“Go to session with the duly elected Speaker J. Fonati Koffa presiding. This completes respecting the Supreme Court’s decision,” he said, emphasizing that doing so is a critical first step toward restoring stability and functionality within the House.

Flomo suggested that once quorum is re-established, lawmakers could consider a resolution to the speakership dispute, possibly through new elections that include all interested contenders, including both Representatives Koffa and Richard Koon.

He warned against continued division within the Legislature, stating that the current crisis is driven by personal ambition rather than constitutional duty.

“Our people both home and abroad are tired of self-centered and don’t-care officials who continue to put country last and themselves first,” Flomo said.

He cautioned that neither Koffa nor Koon alone is likely to unify the House under the present climate but said that a democratic and transparent process could help bring closure.

“Don’t participate in lawlessness and hold the country hostage,” Flomo urged. “I am confident you will do the right thing for the country.”

Flomo added by reminding lawmakers of their constitutional obligation and the trust placed in them by the Liberian people. “Liberia deserves better,” he said.
