Monrovia, October 2, 2025: The situation arises from a lawsuit initiated by Cllr. Urias S. Goll, a Liberian lawyer, who alleges that the airline failed in its duty to reroute him after an issue with his travel connection.

The incident involves the airline’s local office in Sinkor, Monrovia, Liberia. Cllr. Goll claims he purchased a round-trip ticket to Canada through Brussels Airlines’ local office.

Upon arrival at the airport, he was informed of a problem with his connecting flight. He argues that, according to international travel regulations, the airline was obligated to reroute him. The airline’s refusal to do so resulted in his inability to travel, prompting him to seek damages for this alleged wrongdoing.

On September 20, 2025, Cllr. Goll filed a formal complaint with the Sixth Judicial Circuit Civil Law Court of Montserrado County at the Temple of Justice, seeking a conference with Brussels Airlines to address his concerns. The complaint was filed before Resident Circuit Judge Kennedy Peabody.

Prosecutors requested that the case be placed on the docket for the November 2025 term of the court. They also sought the issuance of a Writ of Summons, instructing the Sheriff of the Civil Law Court to formally summon Brussels Airlines’ representatives to appear before the court in Monrovia on December 15, 2025, marking the start of the court’s December term.

The Writ of Summons includes a directive that Brussels Airlines must file a formal answer or appear within ten days of receiving the summons. Failure to do so would result in a default judgment against the airline. The Sheriff is also required to submit an official return documenting how the summons was served, within ten days of service.

The court’s written instructions emphasize that if Brussels Airlines does not respond or appear as required, a default judgment will be rendered.

“You will further insert a clause in the aforesaid Writ of Summons commanding the Sheriff so notify the Defendants that upon their failure to so appear or answer, judgment by default shall be rendered against it, and to inform the Sheriff to make his/her official retums in your office as to the manner of service of the Writ of Summons on or before ten days after service of this Writ. AND FOR SO DOING, THIS SHALL CONSTITUTE YOUR LAWFUL AUTHORITY AND MY WRITTEN DIRECTIONS IN THE AFORESAID CAUSE OF ACTION.” The prosecution concluded.
