Africa-Press – Liberia. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the Preliminary Rounds Draw for the 2025/26 Total Energies CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania the first time the East African City will host the prestigious draw.
The draw will officially launch the new continental club season and is of great interest to Liberia, as the nation’s two representatives Fassell FC and Blackman Warriors will learn who they will face in the opening rounds of their respective competitions.
Fassell FC, having captured their first-ever Liberian First Division title, will make their debut in the CAF Champions League. Meanwhile, Blackman Warriors, fresh from a historic Orange Cup triumph over LISCR FC, are set to feature in the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in the club’s history.
The two clubs have intensified preparations over the past several weeks, holding closed training camps and friendly matches as they aim to be in peak form when continental action begins. Coaches and technical teams of both sides have expressed optimism that their squads are ready to represent Liberia with pride.
Their ambition is not without significance. For over 15 years, no Liberian club has managed to advance to the group stage of either the Champions League or the Confederation Cup a painful record that both clubs are desperate to change.
The last time Liberia came close to breaking that barrier was in 2017 when Barrack Young Controllers (BYC) put up a memorable fight in the CAF Championship League after losing 2-0 away to Ferroviário da Beira of Mozambique, BYC mounted a stunning comeback in Monrovia, winning 2-0 at home to level the tie 2-2 on aggregate. However, heartbreak struck in the penalty shootout, with BYC narrowly losing and missing out on a place in the group stage.
The now dissolve BYC side lost to Super Sports United 6-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw at home and 5-0 defeat away in the Confederation Cup.
That result still lingers in the minds of Liberian football fans, but the emergence of Fassell FC and Blackman Warriors offers new hope and fresh energy.
CAF’s choice to host the draw in Dar es Salaam is part of a strategic move to spotlight new football destinations across Africa. The event is expected to attract top CAF officials, club delegates, and international media.
As the draw nears, excitement is building across Liberia. Both Fassell and Blackman Warriors will be looking to make history — and perhaps finally end the nation’s group-stage drought.
