Africa-Press – Liberia. Liberia football Association second division outfit CECE United Football Academy has secured a landmark five-year sponsorship deal with the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), a critical intervention set to boost the Academy’s operations and deepen its commitment to youth development.
The agreement, announced Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at LiMA’s headquarters, provides a financial lifeline to CECE United, which operates as a mini-grassroots academy established in August 2012 to educate and train young, talented Liberians free of charge.
The Academy currently runs teams ranging from the Senior (2nd Division) team down to Under-17, U-15, and U-13 levels for both boys and girls.
A Lifeline in Challenging Times
Pawala Janyan, Co-founder of CECE United Football Academy, expressed profound relief and gratitude, characterizing the sponsorship as a timely intervention during financially challenging times for community-based football organizations.
“This sponsorship has taken a heavy burden off my shoulders,” Mr. Janyan said. “It will not only help CECE United as a football club, but it will also support the many young people who view this Academy as a source of hope.”
Under the terms of the deal, the Academy will proudly display the LiMA logo on all its sports gear and training materials for the next five years. Players will also participate in charity and outreach activities, collaborating with LiMA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department to aid in the visibility and development strategy of the partnership.
LiMA’s Investment in Character
LiMA officials confirmed that the sponsorship aligns with their nationwide rebranding effort to connect the maritime sector to communities and invest strategically in young people and national pride.
During the ceremony, Mr. John F. Harvey, LiMA’s Deputy Commissioner for Domestic Vessel Registration and Safety, urged the Academy to uphold high standards of conduct:
“LiMA is known for promoting discipline and good character, and any organization we partner with must reflect those values,” Mr. Harvey advised, urging the players to maintain a high level of discipline throughout their football careers.
Mutual Growth through Sports
Mr. Desiré Satia, Deputy Chief Financial Officer of LiMA, noted that the deal fulfills a directive from Commissioner/CEO, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., to support sports and showcase the Liberian flag.
The five-year agreement is expected to significantly stabilize CECE United’s operations, allowing it to continue its work in nurturing young talent with passion, dedication, and integrity.
Officials from both organizations believe the partnership represents a long-term commitment to empowering Liberia’s next generation, focusing not just on football talent, but on leadership, discipline, and community service.
