Africa-Press – Liberia. Liberia’s U-17 Girls National Team Head Coach, Sekou Manubah, has named a 20-player squad for the upcoming WAFU A U-17 Girls Tournament, scheduled to kick off on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.
The young Lone Star girls are expected to move into camp on Monday, September 15, where they will undergo final tactical drills and intensive training sessions before the regional showpiece.
The competition will bring together some of West Africa’s brightest young female footballers, with Liberia aiming to make a strong impression on home soil.
Coach Manubah said his squad was carefully selected to balance discipline, teamwork, and technical sharpness, noting that the tournament offers an important platform for the players to test themselves against some of the region’s best.
“This is an opportunity for our girls to showcase their talent, learn, and grow. We want to compete with determination, and above all, represent Liberia with pride,” he said.
The roster features a promising mix of talents drawn from clubs and academies across the country, reflecting the steady rise of women’s football in Liberia.
Among the headline names is Comfort Wleh, a prolific striker for Determine Girls FC, who has been rewarded with a call-up following an impressive season.
Wleh, who previously starred for Champ United, has scored 16 goals in 17 appearances this campaign, helping her team collect 19 points in the 2024/2025 LFA Lower Women’s League before sealing her move to Determine Girls.
Her consistent performances, sharp dribbling, and lethal finishing earned her recognition as one of the most dangerous young forwards in the league.
“Being called to the national team is a dream come true. I want to make my family and my country proud,” Wleh said after the announcement.
Liberia’s participation in the WAFU A tournament marks another milestone in efforts to nurture the next generation of women footballers and give them vital international exposure.
Fans and supporters are now eager to see if the young Lone Star can rise to the challenge.
