Africa-Press – Liberia. Monrovia City Court Magistrate Jomah S. Jallah has dismissed charges levied against opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC) stalwart Jethro Harris, setting the accused free of all charges alleged by the Government of Liberia.

Upon the ruling Thursday, 18 November 2021, Magistrate Jallah ordered the ministerial officer of the court to return any bonds filed in favor of Mr. Harris and also restored his liberty and freedom with immediate effect.

Magistrate Jallah made the ruling after the prosecution’s submission invoking Chapter 18, Section 18.1 of the Criminal Procedure Law, withdrawing the writ of arrest and dropping charges against the defendant with the right reserved to re-file.

Recently the Monrovia City Court instructed its clerk to arrest Mr. Harris for raising false public alarms and making false statements. The Government accused Harris of circulating photos of a dead female, putting fear in Liberians and other international individuals who want to come to the country.

The Government described the action as total wickedness and unlawful, thereby pleading with the court to have him arrested. The government levied the charges against Harris at a time there were reports of alleged ritualistic killings and other mysterious deaths, though the government rejected such reports.

The writ of arrest ordered that Mr. Harris’ living body be brought before the City Magistraterial Court to answer to the crime of false public alarm and false statement based upon the complaint filed by the Republic of Liberia through the Liberia National Police and the Ministry of Justice.
