Africa-Press – Liberia. In a bid to directly address one of the nation’s most pressing social crises, Alternative National Congress (ANC) Political Leader Alexander B. Cummings held a candid and empathetic engagement with ‘at risk’ youth in the densely populated community of West Point.

The visit, which took place on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, focused on understanding the daily struggles of these young Liberians and offering a message of hope and a pathway to rehabilitation.

Cummings, a long-time advocate for youth empowerment and vocational training, spent several hours listening to the firsthand accounts of young people trapped in a cycle of poverty and substance abuse.

During the interaction, he acknowledged the government’s recent declaration of the ‘at risk’ youth issue as a national emergency but stressed the need for concrete and sustainable programs beyond mere pronouncements.

He called on government and civil society organizations to shift focus from street removal to comprehensive rehabilitation, including mental health support, skills training and job placement.

“These young people are not a security threat; they are a national resource in need of urgent attention and investment,” Cummings stated.

“We cannot build a future for Liberia by leaving an entire generation behind. Our approach must be one of compassion, not condemnation,” the ANC Political leader added.
