Cummings Proposes 30% Women Representation At Capitol If Elected President, As LP Women Launches Village Saving Loan

Africa-Press – Liberia. Women empowerment and participation in key decision-making processes has driven the attention of Alternative National Congress Political Leader, Alexander B. Cummings, who has expressed keen interest in female representation and the National Legislature.

Appearing as a guest over the weekend at the official launch of the Liberty Party Women Village Saving Loan in Monrovia, Cummings committed his willingness to ensure active women’s participation in all aspects of governance if elected President of Liberia.

In so doing, he is intending to propose Legislation that will ensure 30 percent space at the Capitol, only reserved for women. “When I become President of Liberia, one of the first Legislation I will put forward is that at least 30% of the Legislature should be women,” Cummings said.

This according to Cummings will be done within the space of the first 100 days after his inauguration, if elected President of the country. He lauded the Liberty Party Women Wing for the launch of the village loan scheme, which according to him, will help women to empower themselves and improve their business.

The loan scheme which was launched over the weekend is intended t5o raise US$25,500 (Twenty-Five Thousand Five Hundred USD) for Liberty Party Women across the 17 districts of Montserrado County.

Each of the districts is. Expected to receive US$1,500 (One Thousand Five Hundred United States Dollars) each, after which payment will also be given to others who are yet to benefit from the scheme.

The program according to Liberty Party Women is expected to be extended to other counties shortly. However, Cummings announced that the ANC Women will also be active in similar gestures while contributing to the fund drive as his way of supporting the LP Women empowerment scheme.

“When you give a man money before he reaches home, he will spend some but when you give a woman money, she will make sure she pays the rent, feed the children, and pay the school fees,” Cumming noted. This, he believes, will put women in a more responsible position than men, on grounds that their position decisions Powell straightforward.

Also speaking at the launch of the loan scheme on women’s role in the Liberian political space, the Treasurer of Liberty Party Wadei Powell said women must change the discourse of giving men all the support, forgetting about their fellow females who are also participating in electoral processes.

“We don’t say we will not support men, but we will look for good women to support too,” Madam Powell averred.

According to her women of the Liberia Party in the 17 districts of Montserrado County will be empowered to address their household needs, while at the same time taking the project to other counties across Liberia. This, according to her, is the party’s way of empowering women so they can be able to make informed decisions in electoral processes.

Powell informed ANC Political Leader Alexander Cummings and Liberty Party Chairman Musa Bility that the women are willing and ready to form a part of their political activities across the country and must be considered in every aspect.

“Nobody leaving us behind anymore, we will be fully represented,” Madam Powell started, while challenging beneficiaries to use the loan for its intended purpose.
