Debbah Critiques Lone Star After Tunisia Defeat

Africa-Press – Liberia. Former Lone Star captain and coach James Salinsa Debbah has sharply criticized the national team following their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Tunisia in a FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier on September 4.

The Lone Star was completely outclassed in Tunis, failing to score a goal throughout the contest. This embarrassing performance left fans frustrated and drew outrage from one of Liberia’s most iconic football figures.

In a strongly worded social media post, Debbah fumed: “Shape in, or shape out! Some players are running, putting in sweat and blood, while others are walking. What a shame!” He questioned the squad’s commitment, adding that their performance fell far short of professional standards. “If you claim to be a professional footballer, it should be reflected in your performance. Not a shot on goal,” Debbah blasted.

Tunisia took control of the game early, with Hazem Mastouri opening the scoring in the 5th minute. Ferjani Sassi doubled the lead in the 66th before Elias Saad sealed the victory in stoppage time, exposing Liberia’s defensive frailties, poor organization, and lack of fight.

Debbah, who remains one of Liberia’s most respected football voices, stressed that players must take personal responsibility when representing the nation. “Professionalism is not by name. It must be shown in how you play for your country,” he said.

The heavy defeat leaves Liberia with growing concerns in their World Cup qualifying campaign. The Lone Star will seek redemption on Monday, September 8, when they face Malawi, who sit just a point behind them in Group H.
