Africa-Press – Liberia. The Deputy Speaker, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, has bagged multiple endorsements from over 30 communities in Grand Kru County, before formally declaring his intention.
The Deputy Speaker and also Acting Chairman of the Grand Kru County Legislative Caucus is on his first constituency visit of this year in the county, which coincides with the County Sitting.
Between March 27 to 29 March, the people of Niplaikpo, the first town in Grand Kru County, from Sìnoe County, petitioned the Deputy Speaker followed by about 29 other communities.
In response to Niplaikpo’s petition which was read by Development Superintendent Francis Wesseh, the Grand Kru County District #2 Representative said he was pleased to wholeheartedly accept the petition.
“Usually, when l am overjoyed, l don’t say much but, for the sake of today’s program, please let me say much. According to our voting pattern in the county, what the Superintendent was cautioning us about is truth. And it was Sasstown people that were to petition me, but you have broken the mode, and I will break the mode today again.”
He added: “Usually, when people petition you, you will receive the petition and go and come back to respond; but today, l will tell you, l wholeheartedly accept the petition. I will be happy to return to work with the developmental caucus and the county administration.”
Jloh Statutory District, comprising about eight communities, followed Niplaikpo and petitioned Rep. Koffa to seek reelection in the 2023 elections.
On Monday, the people of Bolloh, comprising more than 12 communities, petitioned the Deputy Speaker and Senate Pro Tempore Albert Chie in Doeswen, Dorboh Statutory District.
And then on Tuesday, the people of Buah, comprising about 10 communities, also petitioned Rep. Koffa along with the Senate Pro Tempore.
During the Buah’s petitioning, the foremost rival in Grand Kru County District #2, Dr. Alfred Toe Segbe, a 2020 Senatorial aspirant, dismissed rumors of contesting in the 2023 elections.
Accordingly, Jroah Statutory District in Sasstown and the Gbalakpo Community in Kplio Statutory District will also petition Rep. Koffa.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker’s acceptance to contest reelection put an end to the speculation about running for the Senate against Pro Tempore Albert T. Chie.
Between 2020 to 2022, more than 15 communities have encouraged the Grand Kru County District #2 Representative, Cllr. Koffa, to seek the Senatorial seat, following his unmatched and developmental initiatives including the construction of schools, handpumps, lights, scholarship, and personal assistance to hundreds of citizens and residents of the county.
It may be recalled responding to petitioners before the 2020 Special Senatorial Elections, the Deputy Speaker said there was no compelling reason to contest the Senate at that time.
He argued that, more besides, the fiscal constraints nationally, which had greatly affected the
the development efforts in the county, meaning he must focus all of his financial capacity on the infrastructure and humanitarian effort in District #2.
“To divert valuable resources towards a campaign now would be costly to the district and the returns will be marginally selfish,” Rep. Koffa intimated.
