Africa-Press – Liberia. James Saywala Kennedy, President of the Federation of Lofa Associations in the Americas, has issued a unifying post-Independence Day message to Liberians at home and abroad, applauding their patriotism during the country’s 178th Independence anniversary celebrations.
Speaking on behalf of the Liberian diaspora in the United States, Kennedy expressed gratitude to Liberians for what he described as a powerful demonstration of national pride, unity, and peace throughout the July 26 festivities.
“The overwhelming display of solidarity from Liberians worldwide shows that the spirit of national renewal is very much alive,” Kennedy stated. “Whether through parades, cultural events, or moments of personal reflection, your participation was a meaningful contribution to the story of our great nation.”
He offered special recognition to the organizers of this year’s Independence celebrations held in Minnesota, praising the event as one of the most “spectacular and unifying” in recent memory. Minnesota, known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” hosted thousands of Liberians for cultural displays, community dialogues, and celebratory gatherings.
Kennedy also used the moment to acknowledge continuity in national leadership. He credited former President George M. Weah for laying the groundwork that revitalized Liberia’s Independence Day celebrations and commended current President Joseph N. Boakai for continuing efforts toward reconciliation and inclusive governance.
“This is the Liberia we all strive for: a nation where progress is not tied to party, but to people; not to division, but to unity,” he emphasized.
Kennedy urged citizens to uphold the nation’s founding ideals—freedom, unity, and self-determination—and to recommit to the national pledge of liberty and justice for all.
“Let us rise above our differences—tribal, political, religious, or social—and stand together as sons and daughters of one motherland,” he said. “Liberia belongs to all of us, and its future depends on our collective will to build, to heal, and to unite.”
Kennedy, who also leads the Liberian Community in San Antonio, Texas, concluded his statement with a message of renewed hope for Liberia’s future.
