Africa-Press – Liberia. The Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Fitzgerald T.M. Biago, has stated that the issue of drug abuse and trafficking in Liberia has been significantly minimized across the country.

According to him, the LDEA’s recent outreach efforts in communities, as well as press engagements across the counties, have contributed to the reduction of drug-related activities.

He disclosed that between September and October of this year, 178 drug traffickers and leaders were placed on pretrial detention and are expected to be sentenced soon.

Through their operations, the LDEA has arrested suspects, seized six vehicles used for carrying narcotics, and impounded them at their investigation locations. Additionally, the agency has seized two buildings, one in Brewerville District 15 and another in Duazon, Margibi County, where large quantities of marijuana were discovered.

“The fight against drugs is not only about arresting dealers and traffickers; we are also intensifying our preventive programs across Liberia,” OIC Biago said.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism regular press briefing on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, He added that notorious sites previously used for drug-related activities, including areas in Princeville, have now been converted into DEA service centers. Plans are underway to build additional sites in communities, recreational centers, schools, and other intellectual hubs.

OIC Biago noted that some traffickers and dealers have begun participating in prevention programs and that the internal irregularities within the DEA are now a thing of the past.

He said he has established a strong institutional framework that will ensure the LDEA remains a stable and effective agency.

He further revealed that last month the Ministry of Justice approved the implementation of a new drug control policy, and that official statistics on the measures taken to reduce drug use in the country will be released by next week.

Meanwhile, he revealed that the agency is not only arresting traffickers but also intensifying its prevention efforts nationwide.

Currently, 14 peer educator programs have been established in Montserrado County, with plans to expand them nationwide. Also, Internal drug testing for officers has commenced, and soon we will publish the final reports to ensure integrity within the agency.
